Agent: Donald Winchester

Lucy Betteridge-Dyson is a military historian, author, and broadcaster specialising in the First and Second World Wars, with a particular focus on animals in warfare and the Burma Campaign. She is the author of JUNGLE COMMANDOS: The Battle for Arakan, Burma 1945 (Osprey, 2025), a vivid account of 3 Commando Brigade and its Indian and West African allies during the final Allied offensive in Arakan.

Currently completing a PhD at King’s College London, Lucy’s research explores how horses and mules shaped military operations and the development of the British and imperial armies between 1918 and 1945. Combining archival research with insights from animal studies, it offers a fresh perspective on warfare, mobility, and human–animal relationships.

A Burma Star Memorial Fund scholar, Lucy is also an experienced public historian and media contributor, with appearances on the BBC, Channel 4, National Geographic, and PBS. Her writing combines rigorous research with compelling storytelling to illuminate overlooked histories for a wide audience
