Gary Finnegan is an award-winning journalist and fiction writer living in county Kildare, Ireland. His short stories have been published by The London Magazine, Litro, Bending Genres, Howl, The Irish Independent and elsewhere.

Gary won the Dennis O’Driscoll Literary Award 2006 and the Frazzled Lit Short Story Award 2025. He has received a Tyrone Guthrie Bursary and an Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award.

Twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize twice, Gary has been a finalist in the London Independent Story Prize, the Mairtin Crawford Short Story contest, and the Allingham Festival competition. He was one of twenty Irish writers chosen for the PEN Ireland/John Hewitt Society Freedom to Write Project 2024.

Along with a degree in physiology from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in science communication from Dublin City University, he has an MA in creative writing from Maynooth University.

Gary is working on his debut novel.
