Maurice J. Casey is a historian of modern Europe, specialising in radical politics and sexuality in early twentieth century Ireland.
Maurice studied at Trinity College Dublin and Cambridge University before carrying out his PhD research at Oxford University from 2016 to 2020. During his PhD, he was also a visiting Fulbright scholar at Stanford University.
Maurice has contributed to programmes for outlets such as BBC Radio 4, Audible, TG4 and RTÉ. His writing has appeared in publications including History Today, History Ireland, Tribune and the Irish Times. He curated two major exhibitions for EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs: Out in the World: Ireland’s LGBTQ+ Diaspora and Revolutionary Routes: Ireland and the Black Atlantic.
In 2022, Maurice joined the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen’s University Belfast as a Research Fellow.
He is currently working on his first book, a group biography of three revolutionary families whose lives first collided in Moscow’s famous Hotel Lux in the mid-1920s.
