Oneworld and St Martin’s Press have acquired the new book from Tudor historian Sarah Gristwood, The Tudors in Love: How Romance Made and Marred the Dynasty.
Editorial Director Sam Carter acquired UK & Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Donald Winchester at Watson, Little Ltd. US and Canadian rights went to Executive Editor Charles Spicer at St Martin’s Press.
The Tudors in Love offers a new way to look at that perennially popular dynasty. It answers some of the most compelling questions about the Tudors. Why did Henry VIII marry six times? Why did Anne Boleyn have to die? Why did Elizabeth I’s courtiers hail her as a goddess come to earth? It traces the history of a creed which dates back to the legend of King Arthur’s Camelot – and shows how those same romantic obsessions colour our behaviour today.
Sarah Gristwood says: ‘I’ve always been gripped by the centuries-old fantasy of courtly love, which held the Tudor family in thrall and lies behind so much that we still do and say.’
The Tudors in Love will be published in Autumn 2021.
