Friday 28th May 2021

Michael Taylor’s THE INTEREST: How the British Establishment Resisted the Abolition of Slavery (The Bodley Head) has been shortlisted for The Orwell Prize for Political Writing.

THE INTEREST has received rave reviews across the board, including The Times (‘Fascinating … riveting and first-rate’), Guardian (‘Scintillating … gripping … compulsively readable’), and it was one of the Daily Telegraph‘s Books of 2020.

The judges said of the shortlist as a whole:

‘The seven books on this year’s Orwell Prize for Political Writing shortlist confront and articulate the political challenges of our day, often while calling on the past to show how we ended up here. Congratulations to the authors and a huge thanks to all our judges.’

Congratulations to Michael and to the rest of the shortlist!
