Lost alum Matthew Fox has signed on to star in The Assassin, a new drama series from writer-producer John Glenn (SEAL Team) in development at Max, sources tell Deadline.
Gaumont and Entertainment 360 set the series up at the streamer in a competitive situation; the latter, identifying the source material and bringing clients Fox and Glenn into the fold.
Written by Glenn based on the book series by British novelist Tom Wood, the project centers on a merciless assassin known only as Victor (Fox), who after being betrayed by an anonymous client, finds himself hunted across the globe by multiple enemies, including relentless CIA operatives and a contract killer equally as deadly. To stay alive, Victor must uncover the identity of his betrayer while grappling with a buried spark of humanity that begins to resurface within him and might just be the greatest threat to his survival.
Wood has thus far authored eleven novels and two short stories centered on Victor, which have sold over a million copies.
Glenn, who will serve as showrunner, exec produces alongside Fox and Wood. Gaumont’s President Nicolas Atlan and SVP, Creative Affairs Holly Brown will exec produce for the company, along with Geoff Shaevitz and William Choi for Entertainment 360.
Best known for his Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated role as Dr. Jack Shephard on J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof’s Emmy-winning ABC series Lost, Fox has most recently been seen starring opposite Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, and Travis Fimmel in the comedy series C*A*U*G*H*T for Australian streamer Stan. Prior to that, he exec produced and starred in the genre-bending limited series Last Light for Peacock. In film, Fox’s credits include Bone Tomahawk, Emperor, We Are Marshall and Speed Racer, to name just a few.
Glenn’s credits includes writing DreamWorks’s Shia LaBeouf thriller Eagle Eye, executive producing and showrunning series such as SEAL Team and Allegiance, and doing production rewrites on films like Law Abiding Citizen. Recently, he co-wrote and produced Elevation, a sci-fi thriller starring Anthony Mackie and Morena Baccarin which will be released by Vertical this fall.
Production and management company Entertainment 360 most recently produced Netflix’s Patricia Highsmith adaptation Ripley — a miniseries, starring Andrew Scott, which is up for 13 Emmys — as well as the Uni action comedy The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. In television, other projects have included Designated Survivor, The Terror and Mike.
The world’s oldest film company, Gaumont’s library encompasses over 1,500 iconic titles, including The Untouchable, Narcos, Monsieur Gangster, Barbarians, The Fifth Element, Stillwater, Lost illusions, 8½, and Lupin. Currently, Gaumont is in production on High in the Clouds, an animated feature based on the children’s adventure novel from Paul McCartney, which features six original songs from the Beatle. The company is in post on Futuro Desierto, a Mexican dystopian thriller series for Paramount+, and is also in development on Last Train to New York, a New Line film based on the hit Korean zombie pic Train to Busan, which they’ll produce alongside Atomic Monster.
Fox is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Hansen, Jacobson, and Teller; Glenn by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Wood by CAA on behalf of James Wills of Watson, Little Ltd; and Gaumont by Paradigm.
