Clare was born in Liverpool and brought up mostly in Sheffield. She worked in theatre for seven years before becoming Director of the Poetry Book Society 1996-2003. She is the author of THE CREATION MYTHS (Bloomsbury 2005), DREAM LABORATORY (Bloomsbury 2007), and co-editor (with Don Paterson) of DON’T ASK EM WHAT I MEAN: POETS IN THEIR OWN WORDS (Picador 2003). She currently lives in Nottingham.
