Canelo signs Michael Arnold’s series on the Roman invasion of Britain

Canelo has signed a four-book deal with Michael Arnold for The Savage Isles series that looks at the Roman invasion of Britain from the perspective of the Celtic tribes.

Craig Lye, commissioning editor, acquired world English language rights from James Wills at Watson, Little Agency. The Savage Isle, the first novel in the series, will be published in April 2025 in hardback and e-book. The series will feature hand-carved linocut covers by designer Becca Thorne. Wills called the series “authentic and seriously, savagely good”.

The Savage Isle follows warrior Cullen and medic Cassia as the Roman army prepares to invade. The publisher added: “From wicker men to crazed druids, from tribal kings to woad-daubed warriors, to close family groups, he has breathed new life into a civilisation largely lost to the mists of time. Drawing on new archaeological evidence he shows readers a complex, vibrant culture that, as it wrote nothing down, has largely been forgotten.”
